More than 35,000 Covid-19 tests were carried out across the UAE on Tuesday, from which 596 new cases were detected. Authorities said 388 patients recovered and three people died over the past 24 hours. The new figures bring the UAE's tallies to 35,788 coronavirus cases, 18,726 recoveries and 269 deaths since the outbreak. The announcement, from the Ministry of Health and Prevention, came on the first day of a travel ban across Abu Dhabi emirate. For the next seven days, residents of Abu Dhabi city, Al Ain and Al Dhafra can travel within their cities but not leave them – and cannot go to other emirates. Abu Dhabi Police brought in a permit system allowing residents to enter and leave the emirate on Tuesday. Police said the permits – which can be applied for here – were for exceptional circumstances. Essential workers such as medical staff, patients with chronic diseases with medical appointments and drivers transporting goods were among those who are eligible.
