The UAE recorded 403 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, pushing the country's total to 54,453.

Authorities revealed another 679 patients had been given the all-clear, as the recovery tally moved to 44,648.

The death toll in the Emirates reached 331 as one patient died after contracting the virus.

The latest cases were identified after more than 58,000 further tests were conducted.

On Monday, officials announced plans to carry out two million Covid-19 tests over the next two months as part of its mass-screening strategy.

The health sector has enjoyed positive results recently in its efforts to combat Covid-19.

Private hospitals in Abu Dhabi are now clear of Covid-19 cases after the final patient was recently discharged.

On Friday, it was announced that hospitals managed by Burjeel Medical Group, NMC Group and Ain Al Khaleej are no longer treating patients with the virus.

Authorities said anyone with respiratory symptoms should visit specialised hospitals designated for Covid-19 cases, including Sheikh Khalifa Medical City Hospital and Al Ain Hospital.

The announcement was made only days after health officials in Dubai celebrated a victory in the ongoing fight against Covid-19.

Last week, the last patient to be treated for Covid-19 was discharged from the field hospital at Dubai World Trade Centre.

Japanese citizen Hiroaki Fujita was allowed to return home after testing negative for coronavirus.

Mr Fujita, who has lived in Dubai for close to three years, praised staff for the care he received during his two-week stay at the field hospital.

The centre was one of several temporary hospitals established at the peak of the virus.
