Almost 50,000 doses of a Covid-19 vaccine were administered over the past 24 hours. More than 5 million doses have been administered since the start of the vaccination campaign in December. The rate of vaccine distribution stands at 51.11 doses per 100 people. On Thursday, officials in Abu Dhabi announced widespread testing campaigns would begin in the Baniyas suburb of Abu Dhabi and Al Aamerah district in Al Ain. The operation is being led by Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee, in co-ordination with the Department of Health and Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre. Officials said the campaigns were ordered after Covid-19 cases were detected in the two places. Active cases fell to 15,919 on Sunday after recoveries exceeded new infections for the fourth day running. It is the first time the number of daily recoveries from the virus exceeded 5,000. A previous high of 4,678 was reported on February 2.
