Coronavirus: Sheikha Fatima thanks medics by sending them protective equipment

The programme also includes educating professionals on how to protect themselves against the infection

Medics will be provided with personal protective equipment made by Emirati volunteers in a gesture of gratitude from Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak.

The Mother of the Nation thanked doctors, nurses, paramedics and others working to fight the outbreak.

She requested they receive the equipment. The donation was part of the Their Protection is Our Responsibility scheme, which was rolled out by the General Women's Union (GWU), Family Development Foundation and the Zayed Giving Initiative.

The programme also included educating professionals on how they can help protect themselves against the infection.

"The initiative is a message of thanks and gratitude to our doctors and medical professionals who represent our first line of defence against the Covid-19," said Noura Al Suwaidi, director of GWU.

Last month, Sheikha Fatima personally thanked medics fighting the coronavirus outbreak in a text message sent to their mobile phones.

“I extend you my sincere thanks and appreciation for the sincere efforts you're making to protect Covid-19 patients," said Sheikha Fatima, also chairwoman of the General Women's Union and president of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood.

“Our hearts stay with you all, as you're wholeheartedly responding to the call of duty in such a time of distress. God bless you all and keep you a cherished asset for your homeland.

“Your Mother, Fatima bint Mubarak."
