A patient who had undergone a successful surgery to remove a brain tumour fell from the third floor of Al Qassimi Hospital in Sharjah.

The 28-year-old Bangladeshi sustained severe injuries and several broken bones and was taken to the ICU, Al Ittihad, the Arabic language sister paper of The National reported.

Dr Aref Al Nouriyani, the hospital’s executive director, said the patient was admitted 15 days ago to undergo brain tumour surgery, which was successful.

However, patients who undergo such surgeries are likely to be prone to hallucinations that lead to erratic behaviour and for this reason they are placed under constant monitoring, the doctor said.

The patient took advantage of a lack of monitoring due to maintenance work and fell himself from the third floor.

Sharjah Police’s operations centre was notified and the case was referred to Al Hira police station for further investigations.
