The UAE recorded its second-highest daily death toll on Wednesday, but the number of active cases in the country fell sharply once more. A further 3,102 infections were confirmed, increasing the overall tally to 378,637. Another 3,814 patients were given the all-clear as the recovery total climbed to 370,381. Recoveries surpassed new cases for the 14th day running, leading to a drop in active cases to 7,092. This is the lowest figure reported in the Emirates since November 16. The latest fatalities brought the death toll to 1,164. The tally of 19 deaths is second only to the 20 fatalities recorded on Friday. An additional 179,229 tests were carried out in the past 24 hours. More than 29.8 million tests have been conducted to date. Mass testing has been central to the country's efforts to combat Covid-19, allied with a major vaccination push. Authorities said 99,199 doses of vaccine were given to the public in the past 24 hours. More than 5.7 milliion shots have been administered since the immunisation drive was launched in December.
