ABU DHABI // Preparations for Ramadan are in full swing at slaughterhouses, which experience a huge increase in business during the month.
Last year, more than 70,000 goats and sheep and 2,000 camels and cows were slaughtered during Ramadan.
Extra night-shift butchers, cleaners and supervisors will be hired at all slaughterhouses.
The public will pay Dh15 for the slaughter of a goat, Dh40 for a calf or young camel, and Dh60 for a full-grown cow or camel.
The municipality has said these charges are unchanged from last year.
The carcasses can be cut into pieces according to the customer’s wishes.
During Ramadan, abattoirs are open from 6am to 6pm. In Abu Dhabi, Baniyas and Shahama, they will also operate between 10pm and 1.30am.
