DUBAI // More than 13,000 children in Ras Al Khaimah have been vaccinated against polio according to health chiefs in the emirate.
Dr Abdullah Fadhl bin Al Nuaimi, director of the RAK Medical Zone and chairman of the National Committee for vaccination against polio, said the nationwide vaccination programme is being carried out through health centres, clinics, schools and kindergartens. It aims to vaccinate 416,000 children up to the age of five across the UAE.
He added that over the past four days 13,078 children were inoculated at various health centres and schools as well as through vaccination drives that visited houses, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic language sister paper of The National.
Dr Al Nuaimi said authorities planned to vaccinate 22,000 children in the emirate. Home visits in remote areas were carried out in cooperation with the Department of Health Awareness and Information.
The first phase of the campaign will end on November 27, with the second phase held from January 11 to 22, said Dr Al Nuaimi.
