Work nearly complete on new Federal Supreme Court in Abu Dhabi

The 25,000 sq m building will house new courtrooms and a helipad

The new Federal Supreme Court building in Abu Dhabi is nearing completion.

State-owned building company Musanada said the 25,000 sq m structure - which cost about Dh159 million - is 85 per cent complete.

The complex is located among the cluster of government buildings in the Zayed Sports City area, near General Secretariat of the Executive Council and the attorney general's offices.

The new court has five large courts, an office for the chief judge, a meeting hall for the members, a library, administrative offices, customers’ transaction hall and a meeting hall.

The building will also include detention rooms, a majlis, multi-purpose offices, in addition to an auditorium, prayer rooms, lawyers rooms and parking lots for 136 cars, state news agency Wam reported.

The facility includes a rooftop helipad. The existing court is located near Umm Al Emarat Park in the centre of the island.

The Federal Supreme Court hears top-tier appeal cases among other duties, while the State Security division oversees trials relating to terrorism and the security of the country.
