The UAE has a “unique role as a leader in innovation and entrepreneurship,” according to letters sent to leaders of the country by the US president, Barack Obama.
Mr Obama sent the letters to the President, Sheikh Khalifa, and the Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, state news agency Wam said.
Mr Obama praised existing bilateral ties between the two countries. As well as congratulating the UAE on its recent Expo 2020 victory, he also spoke of the country’s leadership in education, innovation and business.
Mr Obama also touched on current regional developments.
“The US congratulates the UAE on its selection as host for the 2020 World Expo, the first time the Expo will take place in the Middle East,” the National Security Council spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden said recently.
“This is a significant first as the UAE serves not only as the region’s business hub but also as a global crossroads for a larger region including Africa and Asia,” Ms Hayden said.
“The UAE remains an important trade and investment partner to the US, and we welcomed the announcement of major civilian aircraft agreements between airlines in the UAE and Boeing. These will create jobs in the United States, and symbolises our growing commercial relationship.”
