ABU DHABI // More than 60 per cent of homes approved for Emiratis last week have been handed over on the first day of key distribution.
Abu Dhabi Municipality started distributing keys to residents on Sunday, and will continue through Tuesday. Beneficiaries were notified by text message that they could receive their homes.
The distribution follows the directives of President Sheikh Khalifa and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, to provide thousands of homes and residential plots to Emiratis in Abu Dhabi emirate.
In the capital, 1,463 residential units and 2,432 land plots will be handed over to citizens.
“Emiratis are at the top of priorities of all development projects, and the local family has been the subject of superior care and support from our leadership to provide them with the means of living, including a modern accommodation, and paving the way for all sorts of family values,” said Musabbah Al Murar, acting general manager of Abu Dhabi City Municipality. “We believe that humans in the UAE had and will be at the top of our government’s priorities, and empowering Emiratis will remain a foremost state strategy.”
The municipality will also provide eligible citizens with contact numbers of maintenance firms for electricity, water, gas, waste and sewerage systems.
The municipality dedicated free parking spaces for beneficiaries and deployed vehicles for people with special needs to make the handovers proceed smoothly, Mr Al Murar said.
A fleet of buggies were used to transport citizens from the municipality parking area to the customer service lounge.
Beneficiary turnout on the first day of key distribution for Emirati housing is usually expected to be at least 70 per cent, “depending on the rush of eligible citizens, as some might have their own issues that prevent them from coming on time,” said Mr Al Murar.
