DUBAI // The Dubai Government saved Dh4.3 billion between 2003 and last year by adopting smart initiatives, such as online payments and applications linked to government departments and services.

“Dubai Smart Government has been contributing to government efficiency through shared services for over a decade,” said Dr Aisha bin Bishr, director-general of the Smart Dubai Office.

“Our aim is to deliver world-class services and infrastructure to create happiness and improve the lives of people in the city.”

Dh5.6 was saved for every Dh1 spent by Smart Government, said Wesam Lootah, chief executive of Dubai Smart Government.

“The shared infrastructure of Dubai Smart Government’s work has managed a highly optimised and resilient city infrastructure, maximising efficiency and return on investment,” said Mr Lootah.

Dr bin Bishr hoped more people would embrace innovative solutions provided by the Dubai Smart Government, such as online payments.

“There are so many ways to pay for your car parking through the app or through texting, but you still find people who are looking for coins to pay for their parking even though they own more than one smartphone,” she said.
