ABU DHABI // The UAE has donated more than Dh110 million in the past two years to combat polio, Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development, has said.
Her comments, made on Wednesday, came after World Polio Day, which was October 24. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, donated Dh440 million towards the efforts to eradicate polio by 2018, she noted.
Sheikha Lubna, also head of the UAE Committee for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid, said the country’s efforts also included vaccination campaigns in remote villages in Pakistan, Afghanistan and African countries.
The UAE donated more than Dh59 million in aid for polio vaccines last year. More than Dh51 million was donated to World Health Organisation polio eradication programmes in Africa.
