The Foreign Minister has agreed that Egypt needs to be supported to "achieve security and stability for its people and their aspirations and hopes for progress and a decent living".
Sheikh Abdullah was talking with Catherine Ashton, the European Union high representative for foreign affairs and security policy. They also discussed issues in Palestine, developments in Syria, Iran's nuclear file, and strengthening trade, economic and investment relations with the European Union.
Sheikh Abdullah, who was holding discussions on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, also spoke about developments in Syria and the country’s chemical programme with William Hague, Britain’s foreign secretary.
UK efforts in the Security Council, and with other western allies, to reach an international resolution to end the crisis in Syria was also discussed.
Sheikh Abdullah then went on to meet his Ukrainian, Albanian and Greek counterparts to discuss topics up for debate at the General Assembly.
