SHARJAH // Projects to develop Sharjah’s sanitary sewer and stormwater drainage system have been approved by Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah.
The proposal for the projects was submitted by the Sharjah Urban Planning Council, state news agency Wam reported.
The council made the recommendations as part of efforts to improve services in the emirate and ensure residents’ and visitors’ welfare by improving the efficiency of the infrastructure.
The council conducted a study with international advisers and met with the municipality, the public works directorate and the town planning directorate regarding the proposal.
The studies underwent an independent review and recommendations were finalised after meetings with senior officials.
The Sharjah Executive Council was then presented with the final recommendations, which stressed the importance of the project.
“The new development of our sanitary sewer and stormwater drainage system and the application of modern and integrated infrastructure that contributes to supporting economic development in the emirate while meeting the requirements of sustainable development is a vital step forward in shaping future urban expansion in the emirate of Sharjah,” said Sheikh Khalid Al Qasimi, chairman of the Sharjah Urban Planning Council.
In January, Wam reported that more than a third of Sharjah’s Dh17.7 billion budget was allocated to infrastructure, in a bid to develop world-class facilities and protect the environment as well as public health and safety.
