More than 514,000 tonnes of food items were denied entry to the UAE by the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority at Al Guweifat border in 2014.
The reasons for the rejections varied from lack of proper documentation to non compliance with food safety regulations, Al Ittihad, the sister newspaper of The National, reported.
A total of 772,915 tonnes of food entered the country at the Guweifat border, and 51,838 tonnes of food was destroyed.
