ABU DHABI // Residents have until the end of the week to nominate an outstanding individual for an Abu Dhabi Award — the emirate’s highest honour for a civilian.
The nomination period for the current awards campaign concludes Saturday, and can be made by visiting nomination centres at shopping malls in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region, at one of 90 nomination drop boxes, or online at www.abudhabiawards.ae.
“The Holy Month of Ramadan is an ideal time to reflect on and celebrate the people whose selfless deeds have bettered Abu Dhabi and the community,” said a spokesperson from the awards organising committee.
“There’s only a few days left though, so if you haven’t nominated someone yet that you feel is worthy of an Abu Dhabi Award, please nominate.”
All entries will be evaluated by a select awards committee, which includes dignitaries, officials, and industry figures, who will produce a shortlist of candidates.
The list is then presented to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed for final approval.
A firm date has yet to be announced for the awards ceremony, which is expected to take place in December.
A total of 30,548 nominations have been received thus far in 38 days of the campaign — including an increase in unique nominations by 24 per cent compared with 2013, with almost 20,000 so far.
“We’re extremely pleased with how much the Abu Dhabi community has got involved in this year’s Abu Dhabi Awards,” said the awards spokesperson. “We’ve also noticed more youth are getting involved, which is great to see, goodness really has no age limit.”
“We review every single nomination, it’s been really wonderful reading some of the nominations, and realising how selfless many people really are, and how many good people we have here in Abu Dhabi.”
