FNC member pays ‘debt’ to society by participating in government

ABU DHABI // Sultan Al Sammahi felt so indebted to his beloved UAE that he chose to run for a seat on the Federal National Council to give back to every single citizen.

Mr Al Sammahi, from Fujairah, says he expected to win because of his good relations with the public.

“I feel pride and honour in representing the people in the council,” he says. “I nominated myself with faith to serve my country from the parliament summit and to serve the society and to be a voice to the public in transferring their needs and requirements.

“I wanted to focus on the health sector, and sports sector. I also wanted to focus on social services and the youth’s ambition.”

He says his main goal is to request and create a better infrastructure that will provide full health insurance to nationals.

“And to contribute in mentioning the issues and requests of the nationals to ensure their wellness in life. And by doing so in a scientific, practical, cooperative and realistic manner, I gave solutions to the Government to ease obstacles and find better mechanisms through intact and positive discussions,” he says. “Our achievements represent our teamwork, but I did contribute through my interaction in the committees in the parliament in adding new laws.”

Mr Al Sammahi says working with the FNC means being able to assess certain issues and look into them more deeply to find the proper solutions. “With our leadership’s continuous support, the Government is able to develop and reach higher achievements, which makes each and every member proud to be part of the goals reached,” he says.

He says he is always looking for ways to serve his country, especially in making the Emirati people happy and giving back to the UAE.

“This is a great country, and it is time we gave back to it. We have lived in it with great respect, and sought human development and received international respect. Today, the entire world respects us,” he says. “As Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan built this country on the basis of doing good, and providing humanitarian work and support, we are now living under the same values with Sheikh Khalifa, and that is, I believe, our source of power.”

Listening to the people’s wants and needs directly created Mr Al Sammahi’s channel of communication between them and the leaders.

“If there is a problem to be solved, I don’t hesitate to take it to a minister or to someone who is responsible. I try to solve the issues given to me and to please my people. Any Emirati has the constitutional right to be healthy, have an education and a good social standard,” he says.

“And that is why we must work to provide suitable solutions to them, and that is what we are doing on a daily basis. We have worked on building infrastructure, hospitals and homes, as well as developing certain rural areas so they will also be provided with the best services.”

Although he is faced with daily challenges, Mr Al Sammahi says he is lucky to have his team members.

“When we are facing a challenge, we receive support and solutions. In the end, challenges do give us better wisdom in dealing with further difficulties in the future.”
