ABU DHABI // Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, Minister of Interior and Deputy Prime Minister, has been invited to the Federal National Council to discuss officers’ medals of honour.
Dr Abdullah Al Shamsi (Ajman) wrote to Sheikh Saif because retired officers who deserved the medals and other rewards, based on a Cabinet decision, were still waiting to receive them.
In a one-page written response, Sheikh Saif said the ministry cared immensely about the officers and staff, and about retaining them.
He said the medals would be awarded to those who deserved them after dedicating many years of loyal service to their country.
Since the decision to award medals was made in 2000, the ministry had been taking the necessary steps to present them, Sheikh Saif added, and that those who fulfilled the requirements to get them would receive them.
But Dr Al Shamsi was not happy with this response during an FNC session, saying it did not answer his question.
“I am one of the people who is on the list for the medals and awards,” he told the council. “It has been 15 years and until now we didn’t get it.”
