One of the region's oldest exhibition centres is to reopen with strict safety measures in place. Expo Centre Sharjah is a popular destination for high-profile events and is home to the Sharjah Book Fair. The landmark venue was turned into a field hospital earlier this year to help in the fight against Covid-19. But now the centre, which first opened in the late 1970s, will resume hosting the major events it is known for. The reopening is part of Sharjah’s plan to gradually resume business activities, while adhering to safety protocols. Some of the measures include hand sanitisers at all entrances and exits, reducing the exhibition hall capacity to avoid congestion, mandatory facemasks and thermal cameras. When the centre opened in 1977, it swiftly became one the region's leading venues for commercial events, attracting shows from across the globe.
