DUBAI // Dubai is poised to lead the way as a government of the future, its Crown Prince said yesterday during the first day of the Government Summit.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, also chairman of the Executive Board, launched the Dubai Government: Towards 2021 vision, aimed at ensuring progress and success.
The move is in line with the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, on a future smart government looking to “exceed expectations and provide a level of service that ensures people’s happiness”, the state news agency Wam reported.
A smart government would provide 24-hour services, be welcoming to people and process transactions swiftly and easily.
Sheikh Hamdan said that in the coming phase, the Government’s focus would not be limited to ambitious, short-term goals.
He said the initiative would bolster the emirate’s standing as a destination from which the whole world could learn.
“We are fully confident in the ability of Dubai Government, its leaderships and personnel in the various departments, authorities and institutions, to achieve and even exceed our ambitious goals in due time,” Sheikh Hamdan said.
“They have always been diligent and dedicated in their services to public interest, and the time has come to harness the experiences and skills they’ve accumulated over the years to dazzle the world.”
The aim is to create a revolution in public service, with an approach that makes customers feel the Government’s services revolve around their needs and seek to meet their expectations.
In the initiative, the future government is viewed as a single entity that offers integrated services.
Dubai Government: Towards 2021 aims for full integration between all government departments and authorities for effective, easy and fast government services.
A customer applying for any government service would be allocated a personal web page and a personal account for all of his government transactions.
They would have to communicate with one employee only that would be able to manage all of his needs.
Each customer would have one ID number allowing him easy and smooth access to any government services required.
The initiative was demonstrated by a video showing residents of Dubai going about their daily lives seven years from now, with many of them wearing a smart wrist band to communicate with the Government.
It is a shift from the concept of speedy services to one of immediate services by 2021.
This will be achieved through maximum harnessing of technology that would reduce time and costs.
