DUBAI // Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, met the head of the UN’s Palestinian refugees agency on Monday.
Sheikh Mohammed discussed the situation of the Palestinian refugee diaspora with Pierre Krahenbuhl, commissioner general of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees, during the meeting in Dubai, state news agency Wam reported.
The two also discussed the difficult conditions endured by Palestinians in Gaza because of the siege, shortage of relief aid and budget shortfalls of the UN agency. Mr Krahenbuhl blamed the agency’s failure to implement its programmes in Gaza on depleted financial resources after a delay from some donor countries in fulfilling pledges, Wam said.
Mr Krahenbuhl praised UAE support to Palestinian refugees, while Sheikh Mohammed emphasised the UAE’s solidarity with humanitarian groups and their relief and development programmes, particularly those that provide education and medical treatment to children.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, and Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, also attended the meeting, along with Mohammed Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the Future, and Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation.
