DUBAI // Doctors, nurses, pharmacists, engineers and auditors are among 2,000 Dubai Municipality employees who will be given higher allowances.

Khalid Abdullah, human resources director at the municipality, said the increment would be between 30 and 60 per cent depending on the job description and nature of work of each employee.

“The decision is expected to boost the sentiments of employees who serve the community beyond the normal working hours and thus increase the productivity,” Mr Abdullah said.

“The move proves that the Government of Dubai is doing its best to be in tune with the international labour laws, updating its rules and regulations in sync with the expectations of the community.”

About Dh7 million a month or Dh85m a year has been allocated to pay for the allowances.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, announced the allowances for Dubai government employees this month.

The benefit extends to staff in the legal affairs, human resources and media departments, from Grades 6 to 16.

It will help the department to increase performance, enhance ability and attract and keep specialist employees.

It was decided to pay the new allowances to staffers and supervisors in 700 job categories.

The payments will be credited two days after municipality staff receive their salary for this month.
