Dh500,000 set aside to restore storm-damaged Sharjah homes

SHARJAH // Half a million dirhams has been set aside by Sharjah Executive Council to restore homes damaged in last week’s rainstorm.

Police in the emirate rescued more than 30 Emirati families in Kalba, Khor Fakkan and Al Madam after rainwater flooded their homes. The families were taken to hotels and apartments.

Khalifah Al Tunaiji, director of the housing department in Sharjah, said the department had been prepared to help families because the storm had been forecast early and work was under way to repair affected homes.

“We were able to secure the families and support them in a very short amount of time due to early warning about the storm. We also managed to rehome the affected families in hotel apartments and tended to their needs,” Mr Al Tunaiji said.

He said municipality teams had surveyed damage to homes and reported the cost of repairs to the Sharjah Government.
