Dh129m Zakat handed out since January

The Zakat Fund has approved Dh129 million of funding since the start of the year.

Abdullah bin Aqeedah Al Muhairi, secretary-general of the Zakat Fund and chairman of the distribution committee, said that the committee held 83 meetings since the beginning of this year, until August, which approved the funds.

“The amounts are only discharged after all the necessary research is carried out through specialised researchers at the fund to verify the eligibility of applicants for Zakat through legitimate banks for the poor, those in debt, students, unemployed job-seekers, people with disabilities and other afflictions, and other banks, in addition to urgent aid that is provided after a thorough study of all submitted cases to ascertain the extent of their right to receive the Zakat fund’s aid,” said Mr Al Muhairi.

The Zakat fund receives requests through its website and through various banks.
