Dh10,000 fines for illegal Ramadan tents in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI // Anyone who erects a Ramadan tent without a permit will be fined Dh10,000 and have their tent taken down, the municipality warned on Tuesday.

Those wishing to set up temporary tents to provide iftar for the underprivileged during the holy month can apply for the free permits in centres dotted around the capital, although specific conditions must be met, reported Aletihad, the Arabic-language sister newspaper of The National.

Abu Dhabi Municipality said the safety standards were essential to safeguard human lives and property.

Applicants must also get approval from Abu Dhabi Distribution Company, civil defence and police to ensure the tent does not block traffic or take up parking spaces.

Once all documents are submitted a site visit will be conducted before a permit is issued.
