Coronavirus: UAE sends five tonnes of medical supplies to Botswana

The shipment will help about 5,000 medical professionals in the fight against the pandemic

The UAE has sent a plane carrying five tonnes of medical supplies to Botswana to help the country fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

The shipment will help about 5,000 medical professionals in the country.

"Today’s delivery of aid affirms the UAE’s continuous and active engagement in international efforts to fight Covid-19 and comes within the framework of strengthening the medical capabilities of a large number of friendly countries, such as Botswana," said Mahash Saeed Al Hameli, the UAE's ambassador to South Africa and non-resident ambassador to Botswana.

"Aid to Botswana will enable the country’s healthcare workers to take the necessary precautions as they work to protect the public.”

The UAE has so far provided more than 353 tonnes of aid to more than 35 countries, supporting nearly 353,000 medics.
