Mobile apps are increasingly the preferred choice for dealing with government service providers, researchers have found.

A mobile government satisfaction survey carried out by YouGov revealed that UAE residents gave government mobile-based services a satisfaction index score of 77.3.

It was more than 10 points higher than the satisfaction score for online services provided by government institutions, which was 67.1.

The researchers questioned 4,151 UAE residents on their awareness of, use and satisfaction with mobile-based government services, including text-based services and smartphone applications.

The data was collected by YouGov between November 25 last year and January 12 this year.

Despite high levels of satisfaction among users of mobile government services, overall awareness among the population was low.

Only 39 per cent of residents had heard about the mGovernment programme.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) topped the government app awareness rankings, with 48 per cent of those polled knowing of it.

It was closely followed by Dewa on 46 per cent, and Dubai Police on 41.

The RTA Dubai mobile app also had the highest use rate of all government-owned mobile apps in the country, at 23 per cent.

It was followed by Dewa, Dubai Metro and mPay, the mobile apps of which are used by 15 per cent of UAE residents.

Awareness varied by nationality, with Arab expatriates (58 per cent) and Emiratis (47 per cent) being the most aware of the mobile initiative compared with residents of other nationalities.
