SHARJAH // Work on the first batch of two-bedroom affordable homes for newly-wed Emiratis is continuing.
So far one home has been finished while 79 other units are under way in Al Seyouh areas of the emirate. The homes are between 80sq m and 120sq m and cost between Dh150,000 to Dh200,000 to build.
“The housing units are great for those who want to start a new family, it also targets Emiratis who are living in rented apartments,” said Riyadh Abdulla Eylan, director of Sharjah Municipality, adding the programme provides a housing solution for newlywed Emiratis.
“The designs offered have been carefully studied, it allows the applicant to expand in the future depending on the size of the family,” said Engineer Khalifa Tunaiji, head of the housing department in Sharjah.
Mr Tunaiji said the department had received 165 applications from Emiratis the homes units being built this year.
The housing department, with the assistance of Sharjah Municipality, offered Emiratis a choice of 10 designs for the homes. Any modifications to the design are paid for by the owner.
The ‘Small Housing Units’ programme was launched in 2013 to provide young Emiratis a chance to build a small home on a plot of land given to them by the government, with the option to expand its size as the need arises.
