ABU DHABI // The creation of a UAE fatwa council has been approved by the Cabinet during a meeting on Tuesday. The UAE Council for Fatwa will issue Islamic rulings at the request of government entities, institutions and the public, and provide training aimed at eradicating extremism, reported Wam, the state news agency. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, presided over the Cabinet meeting, during which formation of the Higher Sharia Board for Banking and Finance was also approved. The Cabinet also approved a national policy for promoting mental health by improving services and public awareness. The aim is to reduce treatment costs, raise quality of services and ensure that comprehensive psychological services are provided. newsdesk@thenational.ae
