Abu Dhabi landmark lit up in honour of Narendra Modi election win

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's towering election success has been celebrated in the UAE - as a landmark Abu Dhabi building was lit up in his honour.

The headquarters of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) displayed images of the UAE and Indian national flags, as well as portraits of Mr Modi and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, to symbolise the strong bonds between the nations.

Mr Modi was sworn in for his second term as Indian leader on Thursday, after securing a landslide victory in an election spanning several months, in which hundreds of millions of voters were cast.

Navdeep Suri, India's ambassador to the UAE, said ties between the countries have strengthened in recent years.

"The close friendship that has blossomed over the last four years between our Prime Minister and the Crown Prince is well-known. The whole world can see it in this unique celebration of the re-election of the Prime Minister for a fresh five-year term," Mr Suri told state news agency, Wam.

"As the Prime Minister starts his second term in office, there is tremendous sense of optimism for India-UAE ties. We now have the opportunity to build upon the strong platform that we have created over the last four years, and to make the coming period a truly ‘Golden Era’ in our relationship."
