Abu Dhabi Executive Council approves Dh166m in projects

Go-ahead for Abu Dhabi low-emission vehicle strategy.

ABU DHABI // More than Dh166 million in infrastructure projects have been approved by the Abu Dhabi Executive Council.

The council’s Executive Committee, chaired by Saeed Eid Al Ghafli, approved the Low Emission Vehicle Strategy for Abu Dhabi, in addition to establishing a special technical committee to follow up on relevant initiatives.

The strategy aims to introduce low-emission vehicles and highlight their positive impact on the environment by reducing air pollution.

The strategy comprises three main elements, including raising awareness and educating residents through campaigns that encourage the use of sustainable transport.

The committee also awarded a contract for street lighting in Mohammed bin Zayed City, at a value of Dh68m, using energy-saving systems covering 190 kilometres of roads and 4,608 housing units.

The committee also awarded a project for internal road maintenance in several areas of Abu Dhabi, including Al Shamikha, Al Shawamikh, Al Falah, Al Adlah and Abu Dhabi International Airport, with a combined cost of Dh59m.

Works to the rainwater drainage network on the Abu Dhabi mainland, at a cost of more than Dh39m, will also be carried out.

The project covers the completion of drainage networks along with the pumping stations in Mussaffah, Al Maqtaa, Shakhbout City and Mohammed bin Zayed City.

Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Park will also be redeveloped through a partnership with the private sector. The park, in the Al Khabira area of Abu Dhabi, was previously known as Al Khalidiyah Women’s Park.
