Abdullah bin Zayed meets British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson for trade talks

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation met with Boris Johnson, British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs in London on Thursday to discuss trade relations.

Trade talks have taken place between the UAE and Britain to reaffirm the status between the two nations in the wake of the Brexit referendum.

Britain's exit from the European Union has created a new landscape for international trade, with foreign ministers of the two nations meeting to discuss future relations.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation met with Boris Johnson, British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs in London on Thursday.

Sheikh Abdullah called for tangible steps to finalise signing of a free trade agreement between the GCC countries and the UK, especially after the historic Brexit vote in June.

The two sides reviewed aspects of current regional and international developments, and exchanged views on topics of mutual interest.

“The GCC countries are committed to sustaining and strengthening commercial cooperation with the UK,” Sheikh Abdullah said.

Mr Johnson added: “Britain is looking forward to deepening such mutually beneficial relations, the UAE’s success story has won a wide regional and international respect.”

The two ministers discussed further bilateral cooperation in all domains, and the importance of developing them in a way that would meet the two countries’ aspirations. The meeting was also attended by Sulaiman Hamid Al Mazroeui, UAE’s Ambassador to the UK.
