Having chosen committee members and pushed forward a couple of questions to ministers in the first sessions since last year's election, this year the Federal National Council is likely to take a more structured approach. It will set out an agenda for the months ahead to make sure important areas are covered, including health, Emiratisation, education, security and population structure.
All eight committees have now met several times, discussing draft laws and setting out their plans to continue the work of the previous legislative chapter.
Emiratis should soon be able to send in queries and complaints to ministers directly through the FNC via a new hotline and social media channels, to be set up early this year.
Many people will be watching the elected members especially closely to ensure they stick to their campaign promises, which focused on helping to secure jobs for nationals, improving health care in the Northern Emirates and paying more attention to women's issues.
