The Ministry of Economy has fined about 200 shops and commercial establishments that increased prices of goods during Ramadan, Dr Hashem Al Nuaimi, head of the Consumer Protection Department at the ministry, has said.
Mr Al Nuaimi said shops in vegetable and fruit markets had registered the highest number of violations, with around 100 fines being handed out. Around 40 grocery stores were fined, 30 meat shops and butcheries and 20 poultry shop. Ten restaurants and coffee shops were also fined.
