A teenage girl was killed and seven others were hurt after a multi-vehicle road crash caused by an overloaded lorry in Sharjah.
The heavy goods vehicle overturned on the Al Dhaid-Sharjah Road due to its excess weight, causing its load of rocks to fall in the path of a car in which the deceased was a passenger.
The driver was forced to swerve to avoid the debris, only to smash into another vehicle before hitting a lamppost, Sharjah Police said.
The 13-year-old girl was killed and four members of her family were moderately injured, while three passengers who were in the third vehicle sustained moderate injuries.
Police were alerted to the incident at about 1pm on Wednesday.
The road was temporarily closed to allow for the accident scene to be cleared.
