A new disaster film showing Dubai getting battered by a freak wave is set to open in UAE cinemas on October 19. Geostorm, starring Hollywood star Gerard Butler, shows the Dubai coast, along with other cities across the world, being hit by huge wave. Novo Cinemas, Cine Royal and Vox Cinemas all list the October 19 opening date. In the movie, global leaders create a network of satellites to control the global climate and keep everyone safe following a series of natural disasters. But the system designed to protect the planet inexplicably starts to attack it and the race is on to find a solution before a devastating "geostorm" wipes everything out. The film has had a troubled shoot. It was originally set for a 2016 release, but poor test screenings resulted in another director being drafted in to finish the film. This is not the first time Dubai has featured in a major Hollywood film. The Burj Khalifa starred in 2016's Independence Day: Resurgence while it also featured in 2011's Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol. _________________ Read more:
