DUBAI // Two drunk men were arrested for stealing from a tailor’s shop after being connected to the crime through masks and gloves they left at the scene, Dubai Criminal Court has been told.
Emirati AH, 47, and NS, 29, who holds a Comoros Islands passport, both confessed to charges of burglary and consuming alcohol without a licence but both told the court that they only stole Dh28,000, not the Dh50,000 prosecutors allege.
On September 23 last year, police received a report of the incident from Iranian AM, 36, who works as a salesman at the shop.
“I was called by the security guard, who told me the shop’s door was open, so I rushed there and found the place in a mess and the cash missing, so I called the owner and the police,” said AM.
Police officers who attended the scene found two pairs of gloves and two masks that the thieves allegedly left behind after breaking in and stealing the cash.
Tests confirmed that DNA traces found on the two items matched those of the two defendants, who were arrested on October 20 last year.
Prosecutors said that the pair confessed during interrogations to stealing Dh50,000 in cash from the shop. However, in court on Tuesday the pair said they only took Dh28,000.
A verdict is expected on February 9.
