DUBAI // Three Afghan men armed with knives and swords beat and tied up four other men and robbed them of more than Dh70,000, the Dubai Criminal Court was told on Wednesday.
The gang, D H, R J and F J, stole Dh800 in cash, a couple of mobile phones and a safe containing Dh70,000, as well as a number of official documents and ID cards during the raid in July last year, the court heard.
They then gave the stolen items to a fourth man, R K.
One of the victims, 19-year-old Pakistani G B, said: “They tied us up and started searching our clothes and the room for money. They beat us up as well.”
Police investigations led to the arrest of D H, who then informed police about the whereabouts of others.
D H, 23, and R J, 24, denied robbery and detention charges in court last November, while fellow countryman F J, 38, was not present to enter a plea.
Pakistani R K, 35, was charged with possessing items stolen during the robbery, which took place at the villa in which he lived. He denied the charge.
However, he and the other three gang members were found guilty and jailed for three years to be followed by deportation.
