DUBAI // Dubai Customs will provide free accommodation for more than 1,000 sailors who operate in fishing harbours in Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim.
Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, the director at Dubai Customs, said: “The decision has come into effect retroactively starting last January in an effort to support the fishing community and help it towards a more sustainable future, while also preserving natural maritime resources and passing on to the coming generations the legacy of our ancestor fishermen, whose heritage is deeply rooted in our national identity.”
The fishermen will also receive other services including electricity. Dubai Customs has developed traditional harbours in Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim and Al Hamriya.
