After four years of house arrest in Dubai, former Nakheel employee Matthew Joyce has rejoined his family in Australia.
With a surfboard to hand, he arrived at Melbourne Airport on Wednesday, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
“It’s been dealt with by seven judges across three courts across two countries,” Mr Joyce said after landing. “There have been six audits and it’s all been transparently resolved and our innocence established. Now seven judges across three courts across two countries have found me innocent.”
Mr Joyce was arrested in Dubai in January 2009 after being sued by an Australian Gold Coast property developer, Sunland Group.
He was accused of receiving US$6 million (Dh22m) for his share in a plot to trick the Australian developer out of more than $12m in a land sale on the Dubai Waterfront.
Mr Joyce was charged with abuse of public funds, fraud, breach of trust and acquiring illegal profits and commissions.
After spending nine months in three different prisons, he was placed under house arrest in October 2009.
Last May, Mr Joyce was sentenced to 10 years in jail and ordered to repay Dh44m. He was acquitted last month.

What is graphene?
Graphene is extracted from graphite and is made up of pure carbon.
It is 200 times more resistant than steel and five times lighter than aluminum.
It conducts electricity better than any other material at room temperature.
It is thought that graphene could boost the useful life of batteries by 10 per cent.
Graphene can also detect cancer cells in the early stages of the disease.
