DUBAI //FNC candidates began winding down their campaigns yesterday ahead of today's deadline for canvassing voters.
Azza bin Sulaiman, 41, a mother of three who works as the director of housing at the Ministry of Public Works in Dubai, ended her campaign at the Al Ameera ballroom at the Grand Hyatt Dubai.
"I come today to wrap up my campaign," Mrs bin Sulaiman said. "But I hope this conclusion will [mark the start of] a new, promising future."
Her campaign, "Together for our National Prosperity", concentrated mainly on housing.
"I decided to focus on housing because it is a key area in the development process. This is what I know best and my specialisation," Mrs bin Sulaiman said.
She said she had spent three years visiting Emiratis in their homes in five of the seven emirates, which gave her an advantage in understanding the financial and social needs of citizens.
Mrs bin Sulaiman said she began her campaign late because of work obligations, but she hoped her message had reached the public.
"Even if we didn't have the time to prepare, we are always ready to serve our country," she said.
"I always liked to work hard and I was very happy to be part of this opportunity. If you don't work hard, the taste of winning won't be as good."
Mrs bin Sulaiman, like many other candidates, used radio advertisements, Facebook, Twitter, and a BlackBerry Messenger campaign to reach out to the public.
She said she did not spend more than Dh300,000 on her campaign.
