Statistics released by Sharjah Police indicate five people died and 21 others were injured in traffic accidents during the Eid Al Adha holidays.
Four of the deaths occurred in the central region of Sharjah and one in the eastern region. Two of 21 people were seriously injured.
One accident was a two-car collision on a secondary road leading to the Nazwa region on Sharjah- Al Muleiha Road, where one passenger died and two others suffered minor to medium injuries. Another involved two vehicles on Feli Road towards Al Thameed. The driver of the vehicle that caused the crash died.
Col Abdullah bin Amer, director general of central operations at Sharjah Police, said these accidents resulted from negligence, inattention and non-compliance with traffic rules and regulations, in addition to excessive speeding, wrong overtaking, tailgating and recklessness.
