DUBAI // Five Britons have appeared in the Dubai Criminal Court accused of assaulting a man, locking him up in an office and stealing more than Dh100,000 from him.
The defendants, aged 37, 41, 45, 48, and 52, are all charged with forceful theft and confinement. Three of them denied all charges while two others were not present to enter a plea.
On April 9 this year the defendants went to an office in Business Bay where they assaulted the victim, snatched his phone and dragged him into a meeting room.
“They took my hotel room key and ordered me to sit on the ground after taking my shoes off, then two of them went to my room and brought the safe,” said the victim, whose nationality and age were not in court records.
The man said when he refused to give the code to the safe, one of the defendants broke a glass and pointed at his neck.
When they finally opened the safe, the men took Dh100,000, €9,000 as well as the victim’s passport.
No information was available about the relationship between the defendants and the victim.
The next hearing will be on December 19.
