SHARJAH // Fire crews battled a major blaze that broke out on Wednesday at an industrial site in Sharjah, sending thick black smoke into the sky. Col Sami Al Naqbi, director of Sharjah Civil Defence, said rescue teams for several stations responded to the fire, which broke out at an oil plant in industrial area 10 at about noon. Teams surrounded the fire from all sides to prevent it from spreading to neighbouring factories, Col Al Naqbi said. No casualties were reported. The blaze in the Sharjah industrial area, close to the border with Dubai and Dubai International Airport, is near the site of a blaze on Monday that destroyed a dozen warehouses. salamir@thenational.ae
