DUBAI // The man convicted of impersonating the respected Hollywood plastic surgeon Dr Stephen Hopping has been jailed for another month for performing illegal surgery on a Palestinian woman, bringing his total sentence to eight months. SM pleaded guilty to illegally practising medicine and impersonating another but denied life endangerment after operating on the 27-year-old Palestinian, HS.
Addressing the judge, the 40-year-old defendant said he had practised medicine in the US for 14 years and in Dubai for at least a year. HS told prosecutors she paid Dh1,000 for a facelift and two Botox injections. After the procedure, HS suffered inflammation in the area the Botox was administered. According to prosecution records, she suffered acute psychological hysteria. H S told prosecutors she contacted S M to report the problem, but he told her to calm down and said the inflammation was normal.
S M's previous sentencing took place on July 28 when he was handed three months for causing accidental injury to a 31-year-old Romanian woman, who he met in August last year. The patient visited S M in his Al Barsha villa to have lip fillers removed that had been implanted by another surgeon four years earlier. The woman was left with permanent scarring. SM was sentenced in July to two months in jail for life endangerment after he injected Botox into the forehead of a 35-year-old Jordanian woman, identified as AA.
He was also sentenced in April to two months in jail for illegally practising medicine and impersonating Dr Hopping. @Email:amustafa@thenational.ae
