ABU DHABI // Etisalat employees will donate unused medicine as part of its ‘medicine box initiative’ this Ramadan.
The telecoms company has teamed up with Al Ihsan Charity Society in Ajman to facilitate the donated medicines to Al Ihsan Medical Complex, a charitable pharmacy that donates free unused medicines to people in need.
Customised “Eticare” boxes were created and placed across 12 Etisalat offices in the country. During this month, Etisalat has distributed specially designed pouches among employees to collect unused medicines and drop it off at these boxes.
The medicine must not be expired and should be valid for at least six months. Employees are instructed to include syrups or ointments that are unused and unopened in addition to the fact that they do not require refrigeration.
“Our CSR team worked on this project very closely with the charity as we realized that there are millions of people worldwide who do not have access to basic medication and facilities,” said Dr Ahmed Bin Ali, senior vice president, Etisalat corporate communication.
“With 2017 declared as the Year of Giving, Etisalat is also working on a number of initiatives to support the government in its goals of giving back to the society.”
Al Ihsan Medical Complex is considered as one of the main projects of Al Ihsan Charitable Society in Ajman, the first charitable medical complex in UAE. It provides free health care to more than 3000 poor and low income families.
“The sustainability of this project comes from the support provided by its strategic partners, including Etisalat,” said Dr Haki E Abraheem, executive director at Al Ihsan Medical Complex.
