DUBAI // An Etisalat employee who embezzled money by selling iPhones under-the-counter has been sentenced to two years in jail, fined Dh150,000 and ordered to repay the company Dh80,000.
SE, 28, from Egypt, hacked into his colleagues’ computers and made it look as though they had sold 20 iPhones worth Dh80,000. He then took the smartphones from the company’s stores and sold them for Dh2,200 each and pocketed the proceeds for himself.
The company discovered the scam after one of his colleagues noticed a sale he could not account for on his computer program.
The Criminal Court ordered the worker to be deported after serving his jail term.
