The Zayed Future Energy Prize is open for entries from companies, schools and non-profit organisations.

The prize was established to mark Founding Father Sheikh Zayed’s legacy of environmental stewardship and sustainability.

There are categories for small and medium-sized businesses, non-profit organisations, global high schools and large corporations, as well as a lifetime achievement award.

Applications for the winners of the 2018 edition of the prize will be accepted until July 6.

Dr Nawal Al Hosany, director of the prize, said it will celebrate its 10th anniversary in January next year.

“Since its inception, the prize has continuously recognised and empowered those striving to deliver a sustainable future for all, hence the extraordinary impact we have seen over the previous nine years,” she said.

The Zayed Future Energy Prize has received more than 10,000 nominations and submissions across more than 100 countries since its founding in 2008. In 2016, the prize received 1,676 entries from 103 nations.

“From providing access to energy in Africa, to innovative storage solutions in Europe, our winners have been pushing the boundaries of what is achievable in terms of clean energy solutions and sustainable practices across the world.”

Every year, a total of US$4 million (Dh15m) is awarded to the winners to help fund their projects.
