Weather: more downpours lash Northern Emirates after weekend's floods

Intense rain on Sunday lashed parts of the Northern Emirates after a weekend of flooding.

Videos posted by the UAE's National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) showed motorists driving under dark skies and through torrential rain in Sharjah.

Footage also showed lorries and 4x4s navigating rain-soaked roads in poor visibility.

The NCM reported downpours in Al Ain and Ajman on Sunday. Those downpours followed severe flooding across parts of the Northern Emirates at the weekend.

Floodwater surged through several wadis, while Kalba in Sharjah was hard hit.

The NCM said that more rain was likely in the coming days.

“Heavy to moderate rain is expected over some eastern areas such as Al Madam, Al Dhaid, Massafi and Dibba from Sunday until Thursday,” said forecaster Ahmed Al Kaabi.

“Rain clouds might form over the west as well, such as in Al Dafra, Madinat Zayed, Al Marfaa and over parts of Al Ain on Tuesday and Wednesday,” he said.

Mr Al Kaabi said rainfall could be expected in the afternoons towards sunset.
